The °Ø¿ÍŠÊ˜·³Ç Indo-°Ø¿ÍŠÊ˜·³Ç mourns the passing of Dr. Balbir Singh Sahni, a visionary economist and tireless advocate for bi-lateral academic and research collaboration between India and Canada.
As Resident Director of SICI during two pivotal tenures (1983–84, 1990–92), Dr. Sahni played a key role in expanding bilateral partnerships and promoting educational diplomacy.
His efforts were instrumental in shaping policy dialogues and forging lasting institutional ties between India and Canada. Honoured with many recognitions, including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Dr. Sahni leaves behind a legacy of scholarship, leadership, and global engagement.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues. His contributions will remain an enduring part of SICI’s history. His absence leaves a profound gap, and no one can fill your shoes, Bir!
